I do not usually plan to lock myself down to one style of modelling much, as I like to take on projects and ideas that just fascinate me. With all that considered…it looks like I am making another automobile, this time inspired by a classic Cadillac I had seen in the wild. I compiled around other cool aspects that had fascinated me to start creating my own personal “RoadsWell Car”

In starting the project and at multiple points throughout the project, I put time aside from being in 3D programs and instead took the time to scroll through a plethora of car concepts, Design styles and interiors. I would keep all those in Pureref to have them consolidated in one place.

The main principle I wanted to practice while working on this project was developing based on intentional design. This means having a clear flushed-out vision of how aspects of the model should look, In general design, physical proportions and relevance to the overall model…

The Full Pipeline Process.

One of the sides to this project that appealed to a more analytical side of my brain was work-tracking. In doing this it helped me gain a better grasp of how much time it takes me to progress through projects of varying complexities and invest the proper time into the project per week.

210 Hours

  • In General, modelling Took the longest, it is the comlmination of both planning out and applying my vision on a 3D canvas.

    In Total it took: 109.95Hrs

  • The Unwrapping Process in itself was not too difficult, what made it a challenge overall was the amount of separate pieces that needed to be unwrapped. With my general improvement in modelling and keeping in mind the future steps it was a mostly stress free process.

    In Total it took: 37.11Hrs

  • Surfacing to me tends to be the most cumbersome part of the process due to it being very reliant on my hardware and bouncing between multiple Shading Engines. It was elating to see the different colour combos that were possible.

    In Total it took: 40.12Hrs

  • Though as this is a personal project i never really like to put a fullstop on the Rendering side of things. that being for the fact that i can always make more renders and what more angles of my projects.

The Model had a clear general vision but I needed to build upon that with clear micro details to not have the overall project lack content and follow a consistent design.

I regularly use Substance Painter for the texturing of my projects. However one problem I always have trouble with is having the look translate over to Arnold and other rendering engines. I partially blame it on the HDRIs being used but outside of that sometimes it takes me a bit of back and forth. It makes me curious of Cycles in Blender for the future.

Rendering

At this point in the project I had actually fallen upon a bit of a creative block, I find this tends to happen due to me trying to figure out how to best represent my model to capture those eyes outside of mine. The other caveat is how time and computer-intensive rendering can be. There are many other designs I could/will go with as I return to this project.
